MORE INFORMATION ON THE PRIMALS
Marking their first live performance outside of Asia and dedicated Final Fantasy XIV events, Download 2026 places THE PRIMALS on the mainstream festival stage for the first time. Sitting at the intersection of video game soundtracks and live rock music, THE PRIMALS challenge long held expectations of how video game music is created, performed, and experienced.
Formed in 2014, THE PRIMALS are the official band of Final Fantasy XIV, led by the game’s Sound Director Masayoshi Soken, alongside lyricist and vocalist Michael-Christopher Koji Fox. More than a hired act or cover band, the group performs the music that members actively created for the game.
Since forming, THE PRIMALS have headlined sold out shows across Japan, including Nippon Budokan and the Yokohama Arena, with lottery allocated tickets continuing to be in phenomenal demand, alongside appearances at dedicated Final Fantasy XIV Fan Festival events across North America, Europe, South Korea, and China.
FINAL FANTASY is one of the most influential and long-running video game series in the world, spanning nearly four decades and selling over 207 million copies globally. The series is known for its ambitious storytelling, distinctive musical identity, and richly developed worlds, and has played a major role in shaping the modern video games industry.
Unlike many other entries in the series, Final Fantasy XIV is an MMORPG (massively multiplayer online role-playing game), allowing thousands of players to share the same living world at exactly the same time. Since its original launch in 2010, Final Fantasy XIV has continuously evolved, with new story chapters, characters, locations, and music added over many years through a series of large-scale expansions and updates.
With over 30 million registered users, Final Fantasy XIV launched its fifth expansion, Dawntrail, in 2024 and continues to grow with new updates being announced and released since the launch of Dawntrail. Every two years, Final Fantasy XIV Fan Festival events are held around the world, bringing tens of thousands of players together in person to celebrate the game, its community and to find out what’s in store for its future.
Final Fantasy XIV is available on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Windows PC, Mac, and Steam, and supports cross-platform play, allowing players from around the world to experience the game together regardless of platform.
THE PRIMALS sit at the intersection of video game music and live performance, and Final Fantasy XIV provides the foundation for a project moving beyond gaming spaces. Taking the songs created for a living digital world, written for long form storytelling and shared player experience, and reimagine them for the stage, and live music audiences.
