Legendary Irish singer-songwriter Sinead O’Connor has passed away at the age of 56. Best known for her 1990 version of Nothing Compares 2 U, with the track making her a star worldwide.
In a statement, the singer’s family said: “It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Sinéad. Her family and friends are devastated and have requested privacy at this very difficult time.”
Last year O’Connor lost her 17-year-old son Shane who died shortly after going missing, stating that he has “decided to end his earthly struggle and is now with God“. She wrote: “My beautiful son, Nevi’im Nesta Ali Shane O’Connor, the very light of my life… May he rest in peace and may no one follow his example. My baby. I love you so much. Please be at peace.”
Following this tragic event, O’Connor cancelled her 2021 performances and undertook a one-year treatment programme specializing in trauma and addiction.
