Frontman of Welsh rock band Losprophets, Ian Watkins has passed away aged 48 following an attack from two inmates at Wakefield Prison where Watkins was serving a 29 year sentence for child sex offences. Sentenced in December of 2013, Watkins participated in some of the most horrific acts imaginable throughout his career as a singer. Lostprophets disbanded immediately after Watkins was convicted.

Police said they were called to the prison on Saturday morning to reports of a serious assault on a prisoner, who was pronounced dead at the scene.

He was previously attacked in August 2023 whilst in prison however his injuries were not life threatening. Judges also rejected Wakins’ appeal for a reduced sentence back in 2014. During sentencing, Mr Justice Royce said the case broke “new ground” and “plunged into new depths of depravity, Any decent person will experience shock, revulsion and incredulity.” The judge also said Watkins had a “corrupting influence”, and had shown a “complete lack of remorse”.
